Everyone who has ever taken an Ibiza-bound flight has been influenced and inspired in some way by the island. Few though have felt its magnetic pull to quite the same degree as Shah. Musically every move he’s made in the last 5 years has stemmed from his attachment to the great White Isle and his expedition to capture musically as much of its essence as possible continues with his new compilation album.

Vol. 3 again brings 160 minutes of previously unheard music, all entirely exclusive to the album. Mixed together in super-immersive fashion by Roger, each disc moves through a sound arc, from the daytime trappings of sun, beach and bar, and on (with perfect tone & tempo progression) into the night… and into the clubs.

Magic Island aficionados will know that Shah uses these albums as the first listen-in points for the tracks he’ll be using as his prime dance-floor rockers during his round-the-world-and-back summer season.

Following the runaway success of his ‘Lost’ track, Roger has re-teamed with Zara Taylor to deliver ‘Found’ – its beatific, luminous sequel. To the doubtless delight of fans (‘Lost’ was after all the no.1 track on the no.1 trance radio show in 2008) ‘Found’ will become the first track to spin off as a single from the album. Also on the re-collaboration tip, Roger has made a speedy return to the studio with Signum’s Ronald Hagen. After their Beatport chart-busting ‘Healesville Sanctuary’, the pair are back with another well-primed piece of floor-artillery in the shape of ‘Ancient World’. Another of Roger’s most renowned pseudonyms kicks off MI:3 second disc. Co-crewed by Ralph ‘Fridge’ Fritsch, Black Pearl sets sail again (following up ‘Bounty Island’, ‘Coral Sea’ and ‘Java’) with the mellifluous, halcyon ‘Discovery’. Already the subject of fairly intense fan speculation (with Roger using the track to open his ASOT450 set in NYC), it was met by a flurry of ID request..

On the compilation Roger is also exploring new collaboration routes. ‘Eden’ is his debut team-up with Dutch DJ & producer Leon Bolier and the latter’s ‘trance with twist’ effect can clearly be heard on the moody atmosphere-laden number. At the opposite end of the scale ‘Lay Down’ (don’t let the title fool you!) is a peak-time vocal number with Ross Lara on co-production duties and Todd Wright on vocals.
The album also contains a number of solo outings from Roger; included among them are ‘Over and Over’ which on-the-ball fans will recognize from his Songbook long-player. Roger has given the Nadja Nooijen sung track a more club-energizing feel on his 2010 remix and it will quickly follow ‘Found’ out of the gate as a single. This summer Roger will undertake his first ever solo show, which will take place on ‘Guaba Beach in Cyprus. ‘Guaba Beach’ the track will naturally enough become the anthem for the event!

Aside from all Shah-fired audio attractions there are also white-hot new tracks spread across the melodic-thru-euphoric trance range to look out for from young guns like Nuera, Walsh & Mcauley, Pedro del Mar & The Ridgewalkers, Semantica, Dimension… the list goes on.

The Magic Island albums are a million light years away from the typical throwaway Ibiza compilation that haunts download stores and CD racks come summer. Each one is every inch a serious endeavour by Roger to capture the spirit and quintessence of the island through exclusive, relatable quality music. They are now becoming the last box-ticks on the to-do list of clued-up clubbers & beach lovers from around the world before they jump onboard airplanes and head Evissa-bound. Pt 3 should prove no different.

Internationally renowned artist, visionary producer, film composer and technologist BT is back with These Hopeful Machines, a double-disc opus that carries listeners through 2 hours of sweeping orchestral arrangements, pulsating electronic beats, heartfelt vocal melodies and even simple acoustic guitar.

Out February 2 (Nettwerk), These Hopeful Machines embodies BT’s ability to weave both his technical prowess and compositional mastery that reminds listeners why he is the composer that all other composers and producers study.
These Hopeful Machines is the follow up to 2006’s This Binary Universe, an album that created an entirely new genre of evocative electro-acoustic music. Keyboard Magazinewrote in a review, “In a hundred years, it could well be studied as the first major work of the new millennium. It’s that good.” These Hopeful Machines continues to evolve BT’s distinct technical, lyrical and compositional vision and execution, but his usual melodic complexity and bleeding-edge electronic techniques permeate the album from start to finish.

Album opener and first official single “Suddenly” (out January 12) opens to a minute’s worth of glitchy breakbeats made using BT’s own software, Breaktweaker, before morphing into a powerful, guitar-driven anthem that is among the album’s most memorable songs. The track “The Emergency,” is instantly a classic BT dance hit designed to linger long after the song ends. The album even features BT’s first cover, a reinterpretation of “The Ghost in You” by The Psychedelic Furs. The song was recorded on tape, giving it a familiar and sentimental feeling while maintaining BT’s distinctive style. There are also multiple collaborators on These Hopeful Machines, like Rob Dickinson vocals on “Always” and “The Unbreakable,” Jes, (formerly of Motorcyle) on “Every Other Way” and “The Light In Things,” and The Police’s Stewart Copeland who lends a drum breakdown to “Every Other Way.”

Tracklist:
Disc 1
1. Suddenly
2. The Emergency
3. Every Other Way
4. The Light Of Things
5. Rose Of Jericho
6. Forget Me

Disc 2
1. A Million Stars
2. Love Can Kill You
3. Always
4. Le Nocturne De Lumiere
5. The Unbreakable

Already touted as one the essential artists within the EDM scene, Nadia Ali is truly at the forefront of dance music today. With her high profile collaborations (Armin Van Buuren, Dresden and Johnston, Starkillers, Serge Devant, Sultan and Tocadisco to name a few), chart successes ("Love Story " hit Billboard’s coveted # 1 spot recently), worldwide radio support, and a very active global fanbase, Nadia is on the brink of greatness. Her voice is unmistakable, a touch of eastern influence, a soulful easy cadence and subtle hints of Patsy Cline and Stevie Nicks.

Nadia has the sound of heartbreak, passion and power in her melodic, often angelic voice and with Embers, she breaks down all preconceptions of what a ‘dance’ artist can be.

In fact, Nadia defies all the rules, choosing to explore her wide range of vocal assets across multiple styles. She could have gone for the safety of creating an anthem laden album, a dancefloor monster of sorts, but instead, Nadia took her opportunity to write compelling music that goes beyond the dancefloor. Her gift is for storytelling and Embers showcases all that this singer has to offer, both vocally and emotionally – Nadia holds nothing back. Nadia weaves a poetic tapestry with every note – her voice revealing those things even her words cannot. In every breath, every waver of her voice, you know her. You are right there with her because Nadia has done what only truly gifted songwriters can, she has given a voice to feelings that mere words can never express. Reckless love full of blind passion, the desperation and anguish of finding the right person at the wrong time, remorse for mistakes made and for that which we can never undo, loving without fear and the strength we find to do it all again and again and again.

Heartbreaking ballads pepper the 13-song album along with upbeat melodic pop and of course the signature dance tracks for which Nadia has become most known. The album is refined, classic and organic sounding, a perfect marriage of old and new. Embers clearly asserts Nadia as a world class singer songwriter and reveals to all that she is much more than a dance music diva. The album is full of purpose and frailty and will undoubtedly touch people through its simple sincerity.

Embers is a remarkable album that is as beautiful as it is timeless. With songs like “Crash and Burn” and “Love Story” the potential for commercial crossover success is imminent. “Fantasy,” and “Triangle” each hold their weight alongside the works of any of today’s contemporary singers, and will redefine Nadia as a compelling, gifted lyricist and storyteller.

We're only halfway through 2009, yet it already looks like this will be the year of Dakota. During his sabbatical in London at the turn of the millennium, Markus Schulz conceived this alter ego for certain productions - a darker, more progressive side of him which has been the foundation for the hallmarked Coldharbour sound. Dakota coming from the name of the street he lived on in Arizona in the 90's.

It’s been seven years since Markus Schulz first let the darker, deeper and more moody side of him come to the forefront. Not that he needed it to elevate the position he enjoys today. Over the years he has grown to be one of the world’s most popular DJ’s and producers. Founding the Coldharbour and Coldharbour Red labels, running a weekly radioshow that is now listened to by 10 million fans around the world, releasing 2 massive artist albums, winning several awards, including one for ‘Best American DJ’ in 2009, and ending up in the 8th position of the DJ Mag Top 100 listing, is only just a brief summary of what he’s been up to. In the meantime, the Dakota alias has been biding its time. That time is now. Seven years after his last release, Dakota returns with a full artist album. Markus:”I just have been busy doing music under my own name, and when I started on this project, I just wanted to make some deeper more dark tunes for my DJ sets this summer. When I was finished, I realized that this was much darker and deeper than my usual artist album and I did not want my fans to get confused and think I was changing my style, so I thought that putting this out under the old Dakota name I used in the early millennium was a better idea. ”

With ‘Thoughts Become Things’, Markus Schulz brings us an album on which he allows the Dakota identity to take over completely. Markus: ” The album name was inspired from the Rhonda Byrne book called ‘The Secret’. The main mantra throughout the book is that thoughts become things. It really is a fascinating self motivation book that I read all the time. I had a lot of ideas and thoughts after my gigs, while on an airplane and even while I was performing on stage. When I took the ideas into the studio they really came to life and turned into the things that they now are.” With a flawless, characteristic sound that varies from minimalistic trance, to progressive techno and deep house, ‘Thoughts Become Things’ turns thoughts into motion. Dakota is back in full effect.

It’s been a heavy year for DJ Armin van Buuren. Non-stop touring, setting up his own Armin Only show, prolonging his number one status in DJ Mag’s Top 100 of 2008, providing more than 30 million trance fans with his weekly radioshow, releasing his third artist album ‘Imagine’ and last but not least, crashing into the charts with the fifth edition of the A State of Trance series. You might think it’s time for a break, but no. Armin van Buuren is still on a role!

The successful 400th episode of his beloved radioshow ‘A State of Trance’ has only just passed. The 72-hour broadcast, with three events in three different countries, was a suitable celebration for this milestone. But an extra celebration is in order, for Armin’s much favoured A State of Trance mix album series will continue its musical journey with the sixth album already. A State of Trance 2009 will be released June 8th.

By releasing it mid this year, Armin moves closer to the original release date he kept for this series, as the A State of Trance compilation sets the tone for another exciting year in trance. With brand new beats, fresh melodies and productions by promising talent and already renowned producers, the A State of Trance series is known to be a guide in trance world. The A State of Trance 2009 album will be of no less quality than one would expect from an experienced DJ and producer that holds the ‘Number One DJ in the world’ title.

En-Trance has done some research, and is pleased to tell you that Eller van Buuren will be supporting this album..

John O'Callaghan's new artist album 'Never Fade Away' is fully ready to take over your stereo. Already premiered with 4 Future Favourites and 1 Tune of the Week on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radioshow and the first singles 'Surreal' and 'Find Yourself' making waves across the dancefloor, John couldn't have made a better start of 2009's summer.

01. John O’Callaghan feat. Sarah Howells – Find Yourself (07:02)
Known from the Cosmic Gate Remix but with the Original Mix on the album, you expect nice vocals. For sure you get them, great for an opener of an album. But after you heard the Cosmic Gate Remix, you will be disappointed..

02. John O’Callaghan feat. Jaren – Surreal (07:53)
Jaren stands for lovely vocals. Combined with the producing-skills of John, you should get pleased when you here this. It’s not really uplifting this one, the break is rather chilling with the upcoming vocals. Nice if you want to listen to music without headbanging.

03. John O’Callaghan feat. Audrey Gallagher – Take It All Away (06:43)
Kicks off immediately with a deep bass-line. Followed up with a chilling break (again) but this time it gets more energetic. Exactly what you want to hear from John. After that it sounds like the tune is repeated all over again, no much change in it.

04. John O’Callaghan & Giuseppe Ottaviani – Liquid Fire (06:57)
Giuseppe Ottaviani is well known in the more techy Trance world, perfect what we need at this moment. Great beats to begin with, combined with an “O’touch”. As we enter the break the bass-line disappears, returns softly, with more higher pitched beats. But yet again, nothing else really happens..

05. John O’Callaghan feat. Josie – Out Of Nowhere (07:23)
Maybe could Josie lighten things up after Jaren gave it a try. The beginning gets a smile on our face, great bass-line. Further on we were about to lose that smile, but suddenly a nice piano piece bumps in. Lifted up with the great chorus by Josie. Special? Not really.

06. John O’Callaghan feat. Lo-Fi Sugar – Never Fade Away (04:55)
Only 5 minutes you would think, really a shame for this beauty which is called after the album’s name. It starts with a bass-line, piano, broken vocals, it’s almost like the break was replaced to the start. Very chilling track again, no headbanging included, only flying away from this world. If you like Oceanlab, then this is your track!

07. John O’Callaghan & Tom Colontonio – Through the Light (08:03)
Another well known producer combined with John, yes we’re talking about Tom Colontonio. It starts of with a great intro, nice to begin a set with this one. Epic Trance is the keyword for this. Suddenly the album has gaven a whirl to beauty. But what in the love of God happens in the break? It changes from being in heaven to a diner with the devil. Luckily it gets back from where it started, so the complaining isn’t so hard.

08. John O’Callaghan – Broken (06:32)
Only John in this one, massive start followed up with the words “Let’s go”. And yes, he had a liftoff! It has energy all around this track, bring this on the dance-floor and you will see people go crazy. We can only support this behaviour!

09. John O’Callaghan feat. Lo-Fi Sugar – Every Lesson Learned (05:35)
They really learned their lesson after Never Fade Away. After hearing Never Fade Away you will be happy to hear this one, it has just some more energy in it. Pretty nice break also, we like it!

10. John O’Callaghan – Don’t Look back (06:14)
John is alone again, time to unleash the beast! Very long intro with nice synths and beats. After hearing ASoT 400 you will recognize this one. Raising up the volume wouldn’t be a problem at all, after the break we get some nice “vocals”. Sounds very Aly & Fila styled to be honest..

11. John O’Callaghan & Aly & Fila – Megalithic (08:10)
Pretty nice cliffhanger in the review above isn’t it as you see with who John teamed up with?! Starts of pretty simple, but you won’t have to wait long to get the Aly & Feeling. A shivering break, followed up with the beats from John you will hear a nice combination of the 3 producers!

12. John O’Callaghan feat. Audrey Gallagher – Big Sky (Acoustic version) (04:16)
Who doesn’t know Big Sky? Awarded for the tune of the year by A State of Trance in 2007, John added an acoustic version to this album for the lovers.

13. John O’Callaghan feat. Audrey Gallagher – Big Sky (Joint Operation Centre Deconstruction (Bonus Track)) (06:27)
There is a God! You’re about to spin a set? Blow some minds with this bonus track! Energy isn’t big enough for this one. Must-play!

Conclusion:
Above average album, it has tracks for everyone who listens to Trance. But to call it album of the year already is a bit overdone too bad..
